What is Morse Code?

Morse code is a method of encoding text as a series of dots (.) and dashes (-). Each letter, number, and many punctuation marks have a unique sequence. Developed in the 1830s–1840s for telegraphy, it remains in use for aviation, amateur radio, and emergency signaling (e.g. SOS).

This translator uses International Morse Code. Letters are separated by spaces; words are separated by / or |. All processing runs in your browser; no data is sent to any server.

How it Works

1. Choose direction: Text → Morse or Morse → Text.
2. Enter input: Type or paste text, or paste Morse code (dots, dashes, spaces).
3. View output: The result updates as you type.
4. Copy the output, Play Morse as audio, or Download as WAV. Use Swap to flip input and output.

For Text → Morse, you can choose the word separator: /, |, or double space. For Morse → Text, both / and | are treated as word separators.
