Discount Calculator: Sale Price and Savings in Seconds (Percentage or Fixed Off)

Need to know the sale price when something is “20% off” or “$15 off”? Whether you’re shopping, running a sale, or setting clearance prices, the Discount Calculator gives you the final price and how much you save — in seconds.

Black Friday scenario: Laptop is $800, sign says “25% off all electronics” — is that $600? Yes. This calculator shows you instantly so you can compare deals across stores.

What is a Discount Calculator?

A discount calculator works out the sale price and savings when a discount is applied to an original price. You can use either:

  • Percentage off — e.g. 20% off, 50% off (half price)
  • Fixed amount off — e.g. $15 off, £10 off (coupons, promotions)

The Tooladex Discount Calculator supports both. Enter the original price and your discount (as a percentage or dollar amount), and get the sale price, the amount you save, and the effective percent off.

Why Use a Discount Calculator?

Shopping — Check the final price when a store shows “X% off” or “$Y off” so you know what you’ll pay.

Retail & sales — Set sale prices from a target percentage or amount off (e.g. “25% off everything”).

Clearance — Work out prices for end-of-season or clearance events.

Coupons — See the price after a fixed coupon (e.g. $10 off $50).

Promotions — Compare “20% off” vs “$15 off” for the same item to see which is better.

Budgeting — Estimate spending when planning for discounted purchases.

How the Discount Calculator Works

Percentage Off

  1. Choose Percentage Off.
  2. Enter the original price.
  3. Enter the discount % (use presets like 10% off member discounts, 20% off standard sales, 25% off common promotions, 50% off clearance / half-price — or type any percentage).
  4. See sale price, you save, and percent off immediately.

Example: $80 with 20% off → You save $16, Sale price $64.

Fixed Amount Off

  1. Choose Fixed Amount Off.
  2. Enter the original price.
  3. Enter the discount amount in dollars (e.g. 30).
  4. See sale price and effective percent off immediately.

Example: $120 with $30 off → Sale price $90, 25% off.

Results update as you type. All calculations run in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

Discount Formulas

Percentage off
Discount Amount = Original × (Percent ÷ 100)
Sale Price = Original − Discount Amount

Fixed amount off
Sale Price = Original − Discount Amount
Percent Off = (Discount Amount ÷ Original) × 100

Examples

Example 1: 20% off
Original $80, 20% off → Discount $16, Sale price $64.

Example 2: $30 off
Original $120, $30 off → Sale price $90, 25% off.

Example 3: 50% off (half price)
Original $44, 50% off → You save $22, Sale price $22.

Which Discount is Better?

Not sure if 25% off or $20 off is the better deal? Use the calculator to compare:

Item: $60

  • 25% off → Pay $45 (save $15)
  • $20 off → Pay $40 (save $20)

Winner: $20 off saves you more.

The answer changes based on the original price — always check both!

Shopping Tips

“Up to X% off” — The word “up to” means most items have smaller discounts. Check each item’s actual discount.

“Buy One Get One 50% Off” — This is 25% off the total (not 50% off). Example: Two $20 items = $30 total (25% off $40).

Stacking discounts — 20% off then 10% off is NOT 30% off. It’s 28% off. Discounts apply sequentially, not additively.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate 20% off?
Multiply the price by 0.20 to get the discount amount, then subtract from the original price. Or use this calculator.

Is 20% off the same as $20 off?
No. 20% off depends on the price ($100 → $20 off, $50 → $10 off). $20 off is always $20 regardless of price.

Can I stack multiple discounts?
Discounts usually apply sequentially. 20% off then 10% off = 28% total discount, not 30%.
