GST Calculator: Add or Remove GST Instantly (With Examples)

Need to add GST to a net amount or strip GST from a gross total? Whether you’re invoicing, pricing, or reconciling expenses, the GST Calculator gives you the answer in seconds — with any GST rate you need.
What is GST?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a value-added tax used in many countries, including India, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, and Malaysia. It’s charged on most goods and services and is usually collected at each stage of the supply chain. Businesses often need to:
- Add GST to a net (pre-tax) amount to get the total a customer pays
- Remove GST from a gross (inclusive) amount to get the net amount and the tax portion
The Tooladex GST Calculator does both. Enter your amount and rate (e.g. 5%, 10%, 18%), and get the GST amount and net or gross total instantly.
GST vs VAT: Same concept, different names. GST is used in Australia, Canada, India, Singapore, and New Zealand. VAT is used in the UK and EU. Both are value-added taxes — if you’re used to VAT, the math is identical.
Common GST rates (quick reference): Australia 10%, New Zealand 15%, Canada 5%, Singapore 9%, India 5% / 12% / 18% / 28% (multiple slabs), Malaysia 6%.
Why Use a GST Calculator?
Invoicing — Add GST to net prices so invoices show the correct gross amount and tax breakdown.
Expense claims — Remove GST from receipts to see the net amount and the GST you can claim or report.
Pricing — Work out selling prices (gross) from cost (net) plus GST.
Accounting — Split gross payments into net revenue and GST for bookkeeping and returns.
Quotes — Show net and gross amounts for different GST rates (e.g. 5% vs 18%) or for zero-rated items.
International — Use any rate for different countries (e.g. Canada 5%, India 18%).

GST Formulas
Add GST:
- GST Amount = Net × (Rate ÷ 100)
- Gross Total = Net + GST Amount
Remove GST:
- Net Amount = Gross ÷ (1 + Rate ÷ 100)
- GST Amount = Gross − Net
Common mistake: Don’t add 10% and then subtract 10% — the math doesn’t reverse! For example, $100 + 10% = $110, but $110 − 10% = $99, not $100. Always use the proper removal formula: Net = Gross ÷ (1 + Rate ÷ 100).
Examples
Example 1: Add 10% GST
Net $100, rate 10% → GST $10, Gross $110.
Example 2: Remove 18% GST
Gross $1,180, rate 18% → Net $1,000, GST $180.
Example 3: Add 5% GST (e.g. Canada)
Net $50, rate 5% → GST $2.50, Gross $52.50.
